March Break Programming — Build It or Break It!

February 28 to March 4 and March 14 to 18, 2011

Become a junior builder at the Canada Science and Technology Museum. Investigate the forces that determine whether a building is built to last or doomed to collapse. Visit the Museum’s skyscraper lab and test a miniature tower against wind and earthquakes. Create a model of your dream house in the architecture workshop or search for simple machines among the Museum’s collection.

Construction Site

9:30 a.m. to 11: 45 a.m.

Have fun in our construction site, no helmet required. Use blocks to build towers and other amazing structures while learning about the forces that keep them standing.

Scraping the Sky

1:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.

Discover how skyscrapers are built and how smart engineering keeps them from tipping over. In the skyscraper lab, test a miniature tower against a heavy load, wind, and even earthquakes.

“What Am I?” Quiz Show — Construction Edition

3:30 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.

Test your knowledge as you play this amazing trivia game.

The Hunt for Simple Machines ― Scavenger Hunt

Search for the simple machines throughout the Museum. Pick up an activity sheet at the INFO desk and fill it out as you look for the artifacts featured in the pictures.

K’nex Construction Contest

March 5
10 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Celebrate National Engineering Month by assembling a structure using K’nex, the popular construction toy. Enter your creation for competition — prizes are awarded throughout the day. This activity is offered in partnership with the Professional Engineers of Ontario ― Ottawa Chapter
