Public Science Talk: Medical Devices-An Important Priority for Canada

Presentation by Dr. Tofi Mussivand, Medical Devices Chair and Full Professor, Faculty of Medicine (Surgery), University of Ottawa

Dr. Tofy Mussivand is Professor of Surgery and Engineering at the University of Ottawa and Carleton University, Director of the Cardiovascular Devices Division at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, and Director and CEO of the Medical Devices Innovation Institute at the University of Ottawa. He is also a Fellow of the prestigious Royal Society of Canada.

This fascinating lecture features Dr. Tofy Mussivand, FRSC, principal inventor of the Canadian Artificial Heart Program, and one of Canada’s foremost experts in developing state-of-the art medical devices. Take a look at one of his earlier developments, a prototype VAD or heart-assist device from the collection of the Canada Science and Technology Museum. Discover the importance of medical devices and learn more about Dr. Mussivand’s most recent research on devices to obtain DNA from fingerprints and innovative heart failure diagnosis and treatment technologies.
