Should humans be sent to explore Mars?

Café Scientifique is a forum where, for the price of a coffee or a glass of wine, adults can get together and talk about recent -- and sometimes controversial --developments in science and technology. The Canada Science and Technology Museum and its partner the Canadian Museum of Nature serve as moderators to the discussion between invited experts and the general public. Lively discussions guaranteed!

This July marks the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 landing on the Moon. Today’s resources and technologies could deliver a successful human mission to the red planet, but will social and political forces ever align to permit it? If exploring is a quintessential part of human nature, would going to Mars be worth the cost and the effort?

Join us for a lively discussion with our guest experts:

  • Brian McCullough, life member of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada
  • Jean-Louis Trudel, science fiction writer and history professor at the University of Ottawa.
