Learning Outcomes:
During the Museum's school program "Steamin'", learn about the different parts of a steam train in a real-life setting. Learn about the tasks of the steam locomotive crew and about a freight train, through hands-on activities.
After attending this lesson, your students will:
- identify the parts and purposes of a steam train and the people who work on it;
- be able to describe how trains affect their lives and change the environment;
- be aware that the properties of steam are used to move a train.

During Your Visit
Surrounded by the sights and sounds of the giant steam locomotives, the children will participate in activities to learn about the inside of a steam locomotive and the tasks of the crew. In small groups, the children will go inside a caboose, and individually they will build wooden trains and complete various puzzles.
