Objectives of the program

Grades 4 to 6

Learning Outcomes:

After attending this lesson, your students will:

  • explain apparently magical occurrences, using scientific principles such as those describing colour changes in chemistry, changes in materials exposed to extreme cold,rotating bodies, and static and dynamic electricity;
  • observe, record and analyze the results of experiments in order to prove or disprove predictions;
  • realize that science is exciting and describe some of the practical applications of science in the modern world.

During Your Visit

The lesson will introduce three or four topics. The students will have a hands-on experience with gyroscopes, and discover their apparently "strange" force. They will also observe simple chemistry experiments, including acid and base colour changes, and explore the effects of extremely cold temperatures on various forms of matter. If time permits, the class will visit Eureka!, our science hall, with its famous Crazy Kitchen, and experience "hair-raising" activities at our Van de Graaff generator.
