Grades 7 to 9
Learning Outcomes:
During the Museum's school program "Powered Up", hands-on experiments will demonstrate the basic principles of electricity and magnetism.
After attending this lesson, your students will:
- be aware that electricity is an invisible form of energy
- be able to describe the characteristics of electricity
- realize that electricity and magnetism are closely linked
- be able to compare and evaluate devices that use electricity

During Your Visit
Students will be introduced to electricity and magnetism through a number of short demonstrations and hands-on activities. Small groups will rotate through 5 or 6 activity stations. The students will explore principles of current electricity and simple devices such as an electromagnet or a galvanometer. They will also explore the relationship between voltage and current. The program will conclude with a visit to the Museum's static electricity display for a "hair-raising" experience.
