Three Day Science of Illusion Extravaganza at the Science and Tech Museum
Tuesday, July 26 - Thursday, July 28, 2005
10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Ottawa — Magic and illusion will be in the air next week at the Canada Science and Technology Museum’s three day Science of Illusion event, taking place both inside and outside the museum Tuesday, July 26 through Thursday, July 28.

Kids and adults will be fascinated by this event, which is part of the museum’s celebration of the International Year of Physics. Daily activities will include:

  • The Fun House – a quirky set of hands-on experiments exploring reflection, refraction and colour using prisms, lenses and mirrors. Visitors even get to make their own kaleidoscope.
  • Playing with Perception – a series of tricks with soup cans, magic stools and other objects that show how some things don’t always behave the way we expect them to.
  • Now You See It, Now You Don’t... – a fascinating look at a series of optical illusions that will guide visitors through an investigation of light and how it behaves.
  • Optical Illusion Craft Corner – kids can make some clever, take-home, optical illusion crafts to dazzle their family and friends.

As well, on Thursday, July 28 only, magician Jean-Luc Dupont will put on two bilingual shows featuring a variety of baffling optical illusions guaranteed to stimulate the minds of all in attendance. Show times are 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

All activities are included with regular admission fees. From trains to telephones, and satellites to snowmobiles, all the museum’s activities and exhibitions offer a glimpse into Canada’s rich science and technology heritage. Main exhibition halls and displays are open to the public daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $6; $3 for children (ages 4-14); $5 for students and seniors; $14 for a family (2 adults and 3 children); children under 4 are free. The Canada Science and Technology Museum is located at 1867 St. Laurent Boulevard and offers free parking on-site.
