Cycles engage our fancy with their captivating blend of speed, lightness and beauty.
The Canada Science and Technology Museum has collected cycles and related artifacts since its opening in 1967 and now has over 1 000 objects.
The collection was particularly enriched in the 1980s by a major donation of cycles and related material from Canadian businessman Lorne Shields. This gift expanded the breadth and scope of the Museum’s collection of 19th-century technology, including cycling accessories, trade literature and other items related to cycles and cycling.
Note to readers: Numbers in parentheses are the accession numbers of artifacts in the Museum’s collection.
