Public Science Talk by Ryan Harris:
The Underwater Archaeology of Britain's quest for a Northwest Passage -- the search for HMS Erebus, HMS Terror, and HMS Investigator.
November 23 at 7 p.m.
Canada Science and Technology Museum
1867 St. Laurent Blvd.
Ottawa, Ontario

Parks Canada marine archaeologist Ryan Harris will cover the planning and exciting discovery of the HMS Investigator in the waters of Mercy Bay, just offshore from Aulavik National Park. In 2008 Parks Canada's Underwater Archaeology Service launched an ambitious three-year archaeological survey to search for the lost vessels of British explorer Sir John Franklin and his crew of 128 men who had perished in the Arctic during an ill-fated attempt to discover the Northwest Passage. This presentation will show the progress of these ongoing projects and highlight Parks Canada's mandate to investigate, present, and preserve this enthralling aspect of the country's northern heritage. Before this talk, visit the Canada Science and Technology Museum’s newest exhibition on the same topic, Echoes in the Ice: History,Mystery, and Frozen Corpses.
