Get Your Motors Running

July 28, 29 and 30, 2010—10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Gear up to explore the science and the technologies that get cars moving. Design, construct and race your own car down the Museum’s track, and investigate the science that makes engines roar. Meet car experts who will tell you all about what’s under the hood, how a car runs, and how to take care of it. Buckle up, and come take part in a moving experience!

Build a Car

1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Explore the science of motion and aerodynamics. Design and build a model car, then race it down the test track. Best suited for ages 6-10.

Discover Motors and Engines!

10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Investigate how motors and engines work. Try your hand at making a simple motor. Best suited for ages 10 to 15.

Under the Hood

1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Take a look under the hood with automotive experts. Explore the inner workings and learn the basics of how a car runs. Best suited for ages 12+

Meet a Race Car Driver

1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Meet a race car driver and get an up close look at a race car. Take a photo in the driver’s seat, then post it on the Museum’s Flickr group from home.

What on Earth!

10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

An animated short film featuring a crew of extraterrestrial visitors to Earth who assume that cars are the dominant race, and humans are merely parasites.

1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Marvel at a local artist as she creates a beautiful painting of a car from the new exhibition In Search of the Canadian Car.
