Free Winter Solstice Party at the
Canada Science and Technology Museum
Wednesday, December 21, 2005 – 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Ottawa — The Canada Science and Technology Museum is holding a free party to celebrate the winter solstice this Wednesday evening, December 21 from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
All are welcome to attend the museum's annual celebration of the shortest day – or longest night – of the year! The evening will feature:
- sleigh rides on the museum's grounds
- stargazing through the huge telescope in the Helen Sawyer Hogg Observatory
- a science-of-the-solstice activity station
- visits to the museum's inflatable Starlab planetarium
- carollers singing festive songs
- lantern making
- snow painting
- lots of hot chocolate!
Visitors are encouraged to bring a canned food donation for the Ottawa Food Bank.
Throughout the evening the museum's many indoor exhibitions will be open to the public free of charge. All outdoor activities will take place weather permitting.
See the museum website for full holiday program information. The museum is open daily from Monday, December 19 through Monday, January 2 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed Sunday, December 25 only. Admission is $6; $3 for children (ages 4-14); $5 for students and seniors; $14 for a family (2 adults and 3 children); children under 4 are free. The Canada Science and Technology Museum is located at 1867 St. Laurent Boulevard and offers free parking on-site.
