Stories, Stars, Citizenship Ceremony Part of Multiculturalism Event
at Science and Tech Museum

Monday, June 27, 2005

Ottawa — The Canada Science and Technology Museum is hosting a Citizenship ceremony and offering special activities this Monday, June 27 as it joins a national celebration of Multiculturalism Day.

More than 150 new Canadians will take their Citizenship oath at 10:00 a.m. in the museum’s auditorium. Citizenship Judge Suzanne Pinel, who is better known as the popular children’s entertainer, Marie Soleil, will conduct the proceedings. The ceremony will be open to friends and family of the new citizens, as well as all museum visitors.

In keeping with the spirit of celebrating the diverse cultures that make up Canada, storytelling sessions will take place at regular intervals throughout the day. In between viewing the Canadian inventions and scientific achievements on display throughout the museum, visitors can listen to traditional stories and legends from around the world.

Visitors can also visit the museum’s inflatable planetarium for a unique presentation on myths from around the globe that are linked to stars and constellations. As space is limited for this activity, visitors are asked to register at the museum’s information desk if they wish to attend. This Multiculturalism Day event was organized in partnership with Citizenship and Immigration Canada.

All activities are included with regular admission fees. The Museum also offers a number of temporary and permanent exhibitions, and interactive displays. From trains to telephones, and satellites to snowmobiles, the Museum’s activities and exhibitions offer a glimpse into Canada’s rich science and technology heritage. Main exhibition halls and displays are open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Admission is $6; $3 for children (ages 4-14); $5 for students and seniors; $14 for a family (2 adults and 3 children); children under 4 are free. The Canada Science and Technology Museum is located at 1867 St. Laurent Boulevard and offers free parking on-site.
