Celebrate the 100th anniversary of a Museum beacon
at the Canada Science and Technology Museum
The Canada Science and Technology Museum celebrates the 100th anniversary of the
Cape North Lighthouse. Erected in 1908 at Cape North, Nova Scotia, it stood over the Cabot Strait until 1980 when it was acquired by the Museum.
When: Saturday August 9 and Sunday August 10. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Canada Science and Technology Museum. 1867 St. Laurent Blvd, Ottawa
Highlights:
- Cape North Lighthouse Tours: Take a guided tour of the lighthouse, and climb up inside to see how the bulb and lens work to make it shine so brightly;
- Meet a Lighthouse Keeper: listen in as he regales you with stories and with the history of his profession;
- Celtic Music: Seafaring music fills the Museum as The Wandering Minstrels perform Celtic tunes for this nautical weekend;
- The Explorer’s Challenge: Learn how early navigators used a sextant to help them find their way. Make your own sextant and try your hand at using this fascinating instrument as you try your hand at the Explorer’s Challenge.
