Dr Strangelove, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Jurassic Park and The Matrix—each of these blockbuster movies has captivated us with incredible scientific narratives. Professional scientists in popular television series such as CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and The Big Bang Theory are sexier and more glamorous than ever before. For the purposes of entertainment, the lines between science fact and science fiction are often blurred, but can we expect audiences to fully distinguish where fact ends and fiction begins? Are these movies and television shows the best promotions for popular science, or do they cause misconceptions and illusions that quash progress on public scientific literacy? Do you have an opinion? Join us for drinks, discussion, and debate.

Café Scientifique is a forum where, for the price of a coffee or a glass of wine, adults can get together and talk about recent -- and sometimes controversial -- developments in science and technology.
