School is Out but Science is In at the
Canada Science and Technology Museum

Ottawa — Starting with the Evolution of Wheels event on Sunday, July 2 and continuing through Labor Day, the Canada Science and Technology Museum offers a variety of special activities to visitors throughout the summer.

Summer Activities, from July 1 through September 4, include:

All Aboard! - Wednesdays and Sundays, on going throughout the day, last ride at 3:45 p.m.
Visitors can take a 10-minute ride in vintage rail cars operated by volunteers of the Bytown Railway Society.

Collection Tours - Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, 11 a.m.
and 3 p.m.

Guided tours of the museum's storage building where visitors can get a behind-the-scenes look at the extensive collection that is not on usually on display in the museum. Attendance is limited, so visitors must register at the Information Desk in the front lobby.

Vintage Cars - Daily.
Visitors can see staff drive and describe a 1926 Model T Ford and a 1908 Buick Model 10 from the Museum's collection.

Special programming presented by the Museum this summer:

Evolution of Wheels - Sunday, July 2, 10 a.m.- 4 p.m.
This one-day event includes a large, all-makes car show on museum grounds, plus Collection Tours, Vintage Cars, and hands-on activities including the "eggciting" Crash Test.

Music Lab: Sound Science - Saturday, July 15 - Sunday, July 16, 10 a.m.- 4 p.m.
This event explores how sound is produced, recorded and preserved. The Museum will be filled with music with a performance by Junkyard Symphony. Other music related activities and crafts like Make your own instrument, will be offered.

The Science of Illusion - Tuesday, July 25 - Thursday, July 27, 10 a.m.- 4 p.m.
This three-day, mid-week event investigates the wonder of science through all five senses. Visitors will be able to take part in activities including: The Science of Sight, Smells like Fun… Roving magic and illusions performances by the Cow Guys will be on-hand, as well as a meeting session with the Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Railway Weekend - Saturday, August 12 - Sunday, August 13, 12 a.m.- 4 p.m.
Visitors can join a Collection Tour of the museum's railway treasures, learn the inner workings of a steam locomotive, take in the heavy machinery display and demonstrations by the Bytown Rail Society volunteers. For the younger visitor books, puzzles, movie and crafts will be offered.

Lighthouse Days - Saturday, August 19 - Sunday, August 20, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
During this event, visitors can tour the museum's landmark Cape North lighthouse, use an amateur radio to communicate with other lighthouses around the world, take part in a knot workshop and learn about the technology of boat building.

All activities are included with regular admission fees.

The Canada Science and Technology Museum's events and exhibitions provide an overview of Canada's rich scientific and technological heritage. The Museum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $6; $3 for children (ages 4-14); $5 for students and seniors; $14 for a family (2 adults and 3 children); children under 4 are free. The Canada Science and Technology Museum is located at 1867 St.Laurent Boulevard and offers free parking on-site.
