WHY: Celebration of the 100th birthday of the great Canadian inventor, Dr. George Klein

WHERE: Canada Science and Technology Museum
1867 St. Laurent Blvd. (at Lancaster Rd.)
Ottawa, Ontario
Auditorium

WHEN: Sunday, August 15, 2004
1:00 p.m.

WHAT: Join Dick Bourgeois-Doyle as he recounts the life and times of George Klein in an animated 40 minute talk. Dr. Klein, a Hamilton-born design engineer, worked at the National Research Council (NRC) for over forty years and became known as one of the most productive Canadian inventors of the 20th century.

Dr. Klein's numerous inventions include the electric wheelchair for quadriplegics, the microsurgical staple gun, a wide range of industrial gearing systems, as well as internationally important innovations in aviation and space technologies. Visitors will learn why his life story is inspiring to our youth and makes many of us say that we are proud to be Canadian.

Immediately following a Q&A session, there will be an inventor’s workshop, where children will learn how to build a model wheelchair. A number of Dr. Klein’s engineering drawings will also be on display.
