Science and Tech Museum Offers Free Trick or Treat Alternative
Monday, October 31, 2005 – 5:30 p.m.-9:00 p.m.
Ottawa — The Canada Science and Technology Museum is hosting a free scary science Halloween party that will give families a fun alternative to traditional trick or treating on Monday, October 31 from 5:30-9:00 p.m.
There will be plenty of candy distributed at stations throughout the museum, but kids can have all kinds of other fun as well. At a Gross-Out Workshop, families can make their very own open wounds, fake blisters and slime. And a Crazy Kitchen Chemistry Workshop will offer visitors a chance to make some fizzing candy or create a witches cauldron. Kids can also create secret messages with invisible ink or the museum's special ‘bloody' paper.
Other activities include crystal ball making, spooky stories and a ghoulish guessing game. Haunted piano melodies will help set the mood for the evening, and a creepy cryogenics demonstration will certainly chill things down a little. At 6:30 p.m., the Locomotive Bay will be transformed into a Disco Den and costume runway where visitors can take part in best costume and scary dancing contests.
This is a family event with a focus on kids, but grown-ups are welcome to join in the activities. Costumes are encouraged! Free admission from 5:30-9:00 p.m.
From trains to telephones, and satellites to snowmobiles, the Canada Science and Technology Museum's activities and exhibitions offer insight into Canada's rich science and technology heritage. Main exhibition halls and displays are open to the public Tuesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed Mondays, except holidays. Admission is $6; $3 for children (ages 4-14); $5 for students and seniors; $14 for a family (2 adults and 3 children); children under 4 are free. The museum is located at 1867 St. Laurent Boulevard and offers free parking on-site.
