All-Makes Car Show Highlight of Long Weekend
at Science and Tech Museum
Sunday, July 3, 2005 – 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
Ottawa — Car enthusiasts will gather on the grounds of the Canada Science and Technology Museum on Sunday, July 3 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for a large, all-makes car show that is part of the museum's annual Evolution of Wheels event.
The event will round out a long weekend which begins with free admission to all visitors on Canada Day, Friday July 1.
In addition to the car show, the popular Evolution of Wheels event, organized in partnership with Capital Area MOPARs, will feature vintage vehicles from the museum's collection. These will include a 1926 Model T Ford, a Bricklin and a Henry Seth Taylor Steam Carriage – the first car ever built in Canada. Museum guides will be driving some of the vintage cars around the grounds.
Visitors will also be able to take in an unusual display of working vehicles, including a 1965 International Harvester Ambulance and a modern paramedic vehicle, put on in partnership with the City of Ottawa. And for those who wonder how it all works, a science booth will feature hands-on experiments that demonstrate the science behind the wheels and gears that powered yesterday's muscle cars, and today's more environmentally conscious vehicles.
The museum is also offering special tours of it's warehouses, which feature a variety of vintage vehicles, including many rare cars and motorcycles. Artifacts stored in the warehouses include the Popemobile, a Royal Tour car and a collection of firefighting vehicles.
All activities are included with regular admission fees. The Museum also offers a number of temporary and permanent exhibitions, and interactive displays. From trains to telephones, and satellites to snowmobiles, the Museum's activities and exhibitions offer a glimpse into Canada's rich science and technology heritage. Main exhibition halls and displays are open to the public daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $6; $3 for children (ages 4-14); $5 for students and seniors; $14 for a family (2 adults and 3 children); children under 4 are free. The Canada Science and Technology Museum is located at 1867 St. Laurent Boulevard and offers free parking on-site.
